The ZONA 120 method

Four steps between your idea and take-off

  1. 01

You tell us about the operation

Location, aircraft, height, date and type of work. A point on the map is enough to get started.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis within 24 h

Within 24 hours you know what affects your flight, which category applies and what needs to be coordinated to make it legal.

  3. 03

    Studies, only if needed

If your operation requires it, we write and coordinate the EARO, SORA, PDRA or STS. In the open category, coordination is often enough: you don't pay for studies you don't need.

  4. 04

    Fly with peace of mind

You receive the authorisations and conditions for your operation, with a pre-flight checklist ready for any inspection.

Connected live to ENAIRE Drones

Where do you want to fly?

Mark a point on the map or type its coordinates. We instantly check ENAIRE's UAS geographical zones and show you, trailer-style, everything you would need to coordinate.

Data: public services from ENAIRE Drones. For guidance only: it does not replace the official check and is not an authorisation.

Team

Technical and legal backing on every operation

At ZONA 120 every case is led by an aviation manager specialised in UAS operations. When the operation requires it, our lawyer specialised in aviation law joins in, so every operator has technical and legal support without having to find it on their own.

Aviation manager

Your point of contact throughout the process

Analyses each flight point, determines the applicable category and requirements, writes the aeronautical studies (EARO, SORA, PDRA, STS) and coordinates the operation with ENAIRE, AESA, airport operators and authorities in other countries until it is approved.

Aviation law lawyer

When the operation requires it

Steps in on cases that need legal backing: interpreting the regulations, complex authorisations or requests from the authorities. Available to any operator, whether or not they have a plan.

Frequently asked questions

What operators ask us most

Short, clear answers to the most common questions about where, how and with which drone you can fly.

Can you fly a drone anywhere?

It depends on the exact point. Each location combines UAS geographical zones (controlled airspace, aerodromes and heliports, restricted zones, protected areas, infrastructure and urban areas), active NOTAMs and the limits of your flight category. You can do a free first check with our analyser connected to ENAIRE Drones, and within 24 hours we give you the full diagnosis. Outside Spain, each country has its own authority and zones: we coordinate that too.

What is an EARO and why is it needed?

The EARO (Evaluación y Atenuación del Riesgo Operacional, an operational risk assessment and mitigation) is the safety study that analyses the risks of a drone operation in controlled airspace or near an aerodrome, and defines the measures to mitigate them. It is needed because it is the document used to coordinate the operation with the air traffic service provider (in Spain, usually ENAIRE through Planea). At ZONA 120 we write and coordinate it within 2 weeks.

Which category does my drone fly in?

It depends on its class mark and weight. In the open category, C0 drones or unmarked drones under 250 g fly in A1; C1 drones also in A1, without flying over uninvolved people; C2 drones in A2 with the A2 certificate; and C3, C4 or unmarked drones up to 25 kg in A3, away from people and 150 m from urban areas. C5 and C6 drones are used in the STS-01 and STS-02 standard scenarios of the specific category.

Can I fly in an urban area without coordinating?

Coordination isn't always needed, but notification is: in Spain urban areas are a UAS geographical zone, and Royal Decree 517/2024 requires the operation to be notified to the Ministry of the Interior at least five days in advance. Your drone and subcategory must also allow flying near people, and you need to check whether the point is in controlled airspace or near a heliport. We check it and send the notification for you.

Why can't I fly in STS with the DJI Mini 5 Pro any more, when I could last year?

Because on 1 January 2026 the Spanish national standard scenarios (STS-ES), which did not require C5 or C6 class-marked drones, stopped being valid. Today only the European STS-01 and STS-02 scenarios exist, and they do require it; the DJI Mini 5 Pro is sold as class C0 or C1. For those operations you have two routes: the open category (A1), if your flight fits, or an authorisation in the specific category (PDRA or SORA). We help you choose and process the best one.

Do I need the radio operator certificate to fly a drone?

You need it when your operation requires communicating on the aviation radio band with air traffic services, which is common in controlled airspace and flight information zones (FIZ). In that case Royal Decree 517/2024 (Article 34) requires the theoretical and practical radio operator training certificate. We guide you through the whole process, together with your A1/A3, A2 or STS pilot certificates.

How much does it cost to get a drone flight permit?

Without a membership, a feasibility analysis costs from €75, managing a coordination or permit from €195 and a complex coordination from €295. If you fly often, the plans include operations every month: ZONA 40 for €129/month, ZONA 80 for €249/month and ZONA 120 for €449/month, with discounts of up to 30 % on aeronautical studies. EARO, SORA, PDRA and international permits are quoted individually.

Do you coordinate drone flights outside Spain?

Yes. Although our base and most operations are in Spain, we coordinate flights in other European Union countries (cross-border operations under Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2019/947) and in countries outside the EU: we identify the competent authority and the requirements, and handle the permits.

Who is behind ZONA 120?

ZONA 120 Drone Consulting is an aviation consultancy for drone operators based in Calpe (Alicante, Spain). Every case is led by an aviation manager specialised in UAS operations and, when the operation requires it, our lawyer specialised in aviation law steps in, so everything is technically and legally sound.
